DEATH OF WELL KNOWN IDENTITY OF WORLD THEATRE

______________________________________________
Neville Russell, who commenced at the World Theatre when it first opened in 1996, passed away after a short illness in the Townsville General Hospital on Saturday 22nd Feb.

Neville had commenced as Assistant Manager, later becoming Manager until his retirement several years ago. He stayed on at the World in a part time capacity looking after reservations, live theatre sales, accounts payable, and in many instances, foyer management of events and live presentations.

Ken Robbins,Controller of Theatre Operations for Entertainment Services, the company who manages the World Theatre, is full of praise for Mr Russell, who he states gave loyal and outstanding service to the theatre, the community and his employer. The theatre has hosted many events of significant benefit to the community, that resulted from his instigation. We have received, even at this early stage, many messages of sympathy from film distributors and theatrical producers who have dealt with him over the years. All of us at the World will miss him. Our sympathy is extended to his family.

Neville’s funeral will be Friday 28th Feb,with a gathering to remember him at the World Theatre afterwards. Please see the family notices for details. He is survived by his wife and their two children.

Calendar Girls - LIVE PERFORMANCE. Monday, March 17, 2014 at 7:30pm

Some ladies will do ANYTHING for a good cause!
Written by Tim Firth
Presented by Jally Entertainment

When Annie's husband John dies from Leukaemia, she and her best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new sofa in the local hospital waiting room.
They manage to persuade four fellow Woman’s Institute members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar. With their modesty spared only by artfully placed cakes, knitting and flower arrangements, and a little help from the hospital porter and an amateur photographer they complete their calendar.
The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales (UK). The calendar is a huge success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.

Based on the true story of eleven Woman’s Institute members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund; Calendar Girls became the fastest selling play in British theatre history, received the What's On Stage Award for Best New Comedy in 2010 and is now a worldwide comedy hit!

‘It's marvellous theatre, guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and come out singing Jerusalem.’ Mail on Sunday

‘Dazzlingly funny, shamelessly sentimental and utterly captivating ... the mingling of pathos and comedy here is simply unbeatable.’ Spectator
