 DUSK and DAWN

art exhibition 6 to 29 OCTOBER 2023

DOTS BY DESIGNZ

OPENING FRIDAY 6 OCT 6PM

How much difference can 11hrs make?

The sharp changes of the of desert at dusk and dawn give life to new silhouettes as native animals walk its plans.

As the sun sets and rises over the desert, the changing landscape brings a sense of newness and wonder. The beauty of the desert at these times of day is truly breathtaking.

There's nothing quite like experiencing the desert landscape up close and personal. During these times of day gives you a chance to witness the changing colours and shadows that transform the desert from a harsh, unforgiving landscape to a place of beauty and wonder.

The desert is one of the best places in the world to view the night sky. With very little light pollution, the stars seem to shine brighter and clearer than anywhere else. Lay out a blanket and spend the night marvelling at the beauty of the universe. Or climb one of the rangers you'll get a bird's eye view of the changing landscape and the native animals that call it home.

This collection of modern stories showcases the beauty and wonder of the desert, and showing our new love for exploring different art forms and media.

Free event - bar open, light refreshments

Exhibition open until 9 July 2023

“Faces Behind The Music” is Wayne Budge’s ongoing series of photographs that documents his portrait images of high profile contemporary singers, songwriters and musicians.

In this series, Wayne wanted to create something different than the usual “Promo”, “On Stage” or “Back Stage” shot - he wanted to photograph the person and not the celebrity.

Budge's portraits utilise low-key lighting to illuminate certain areas of an image, which gives the portraits a dramatic look of light and shadow. These portraits were not staged in a photographic studio, and most of the images were taken in the artist’s homes or in their own surrounds.

These artists also presented themselves as to how they wanted to be portrayed and photographed. Over the years, Budge has worked closely with many Australian and overseas artists, enabling him to truly capture the soul and character of these living icons.

Testimonials

“Budge has a way of drawing drama from his subjects. He captures how nature paints with light and he concentrates our focus letting us take a glimpse into Wayne's world. His images can be delicate but usually possess a lyrical strength that mark them out from the ordinary.”
Andrew “Greedy” Smith… Artist, Singer/Songwriter – “Mental As Anything”

I have known Wayne Budge for quite some years and during this time I have had the pleasure to view his ‘art of photography’. Wayne’s command of using a camera is way beyond the ‘norm’, he is able to transform his photographs into an art piece of outstanding quality. His works transcend into a parallel dimension exposing the hidden virtues of his subject. I have seen his works grow in depth and emotion and yet he tells me his journey has just begun.
Donald James Waters AOM - Contemporary Australian Artist

It's been an absolute pleasure hosting your 'Faces Behind The Music' exhibition, bringing with it the joy of memories created to the great Australian soundtrack. It has been enjoyed by our volunteers and visitors, many of whom had stories to share around these artists, their music and performances, and easily related back to the personalities you have so gracefully captured in these images. We created a Spotify playlist which included all bands and artists featured and kept us happily tapping and humming along each day, adding an extra dimension to the experience. Thank you Wayne, for bringing these faces and their music to life in our Gallery!
Cara Boehm -  Gallery Project Officer, Barossa Regional Gallery, South Australia
