step back in time with some classic historic hand drawn screen prints by local artist...
Jim Arena is a self-taught and passionate artist who has lived in the Towers for a long time. In his early years he began working as a ticket-writer and window-dresser, all the while painting and drawing whenever he could get the time, so it was a natural and easy progression to move into sign writing, screen-printing and commercial art and design as a business. These tea towels are from Jim's personal collection, with some also featured at the Cairns Museum in May 2021.
During his extended career in the visual advertising industry, Jim used various techniques including air-brushing, pencil, pen and ink to produce hundreds of T-shirt and tea towel designs. He designed numerous book covers & illustrated books for authors from all over Australia. Jim has won State and National awards for his designs, and now creates fine art full-time, with a focus on oil painted landscapes and pencil drawings.
