John MacNally
Love & Roses

It is almost impossible to describe sound on paper, and mere words cannot pay justice to the magnificent voice of John MacNally. John’s dynamic stage personality and glorious voice are reflected in his more than 40 phenomenally successful albums, his top rated television specials and his many appearances both on stage and on television.
John’s warmth and versatility have made him equally at home, and overwhelmingly received, from Las Vegas to Carnegie Hall to the stage of the “Grand Ole Opry”.

Born in Dublin, John was a boy soprano singing in the church choir and at concerts. His early adult years were spent training for what he thought would be a strictly classical career. For a time Musical Comedy beckoned and among Johns’s favourite performances were “Carousel”, “South Pacific”, “Rose Marie” and “Desert Song”. He also had his own radio and TV series and completed numerous seasons in cabaret and theatre. It was during this time that he recorded his biggest hit song “Mary in the Morning”.
Over the years, John performed in Australia, America, Canada, Japan, London and triumphant return to his beloved Dublin and the concert platform. He has appeared with Bing Crosby, Joan Sutherland, Liberace, Jack Benny, Buddy Hackett, Telly Savallas, Jerry Lewis, Ernist Borgnine, The Mills Brothers, Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl and more.

Some of John’s record albums include Lots of Love, Sincerely, That’s What Friends Are For, Just For You, Mary In The Morning, Songs of Peace and Love, Then Sings My Soul, Desert Song, Songs of Ireland, Before You Go, Evergreen, Love Songs, John MacNally Collection, Australian Trilogy, Naughty Marietta and more.
Words alone can only describe a part of John’s life and career, but in no way can they capture the joy and splendour that is realised by seeing or hearing John perform. Most recently a book on John’s life has been produced out of New York which traces his life from the country lanes of Dublin to the world’s most celebrated concert halls. A world traveller and performer who is a most gifted and talented artist!

The Scene Project ...

The Scene Project with Qld Theatre Company & Charters Towers Drama Students

6pm Thurs 4 June

Mt Leyshon Auditorium
Free event

The Scene Project gives students the opportunity to access a newly commissioned script. Once they have received the script, the selected group has a term to work on their scenes.

Then student groups will bring their work to Mt Leyshon Auditorium at The World Theatre Charters Towers.

A set stage, a captive audience and 15 minutes to show what they’ve come up with? After all the student performances are done and dusted, a cast of professional actors will take the stage and will culminate the day’s performances by presenting their own interpretation of the scenes and leading the groups in a forum, Q&A and discussion.

It will be a wonderful challenge for the students, a chance for each school to present their vision & version of the same scene, plus experience how professional actors approach the same material.

If you have an interest in theatre... this could be an interesting show for you too.

Ideal for ALL ages

Squaring the Wheel combines circus, clown, strange mechanisms and contraptions, puppetry, magic and music into an unusual, thingamabobbish theatre extravaganza.

A flying broom, 17 balls, 34 meters of bent steel, 483 welded points and 15 marching eggs are just the tip of the iceberg of unexpected, transformed wacky materials and objects.

Unpredictable, funny, touching, highly visual and occasionally out of control, it is a clever theatre adventure for the whole family in thinking outside of the box.

Topsy-turvy ways to look at things, teamed with imagination, transform a pile of junk into a resourceful repository of gadgets and circus props, into life and friendship supporting odds and ends... all done in an hilarious and ultimately very human way of complicating simple things.
