ROCKET MAN – Songs and Stories of Elton John [LIVE]

2pm Sat 13 Aug 2016

Tickets $15/ Group 10+ $12 Season Pass Option (ask at the Box Office)
MM Music Matinee at The World Theatre

Rocket Man is a unique and entertaining salute to Sir Elton John, one of the most iconic popular music figures of the 20th and 21st centuries. The show covers Elton’s remarkable career from his first hit song through the disco era to his music for the Disney film ‘The Lion King’. You’ll also hear intriguing and often hilarious tales about Elton’s life and the stories behind the songs.

Rocket Man stars classically trained musician Brenton Edgecombe. Brenton learned his first Elton John song at the age of nine while also studying the violin. He has played violin with several of this country’s professional orchestras and once performed as Elton John backed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. He has often been mistaken for Elton John in airports, and once escaped a customs inspection on the strength of his ‘fake celebrity’ status.

Brenton’s double edged career in both classical and pop music led to the formation of the double-act String Fever with his wife Jacqui, who also features strongly in ‘Rocket Man’ on cello, keyboards, backing vocals and percussion!

String Fever is the recipient of five Australian Entertainment Industry MO Awards (including Variety Entertainers of the Year), due in no small part to the immense popularity of the Elton John segment in every show. Rocket Man was the official entertainment for the 2011 Royal Wedding celebrations at the prestigious Australian Club.

As the "Queen of 70s Pop", Helen Reddy rose to massive international super-stardom.

With 15 singles in the American top 40 and three number one hits in the same year, her signature tune, I Am Woman, became the feminist anthem of a generation and earned her the honour of becoming the first Australian ever to win a coveted Grammy Award in the United States of America.

During her extraordinary career she starred in Hollywood movies and on the West End, played to sell-out houses in Vegas and around the world and was the first Australian to host her very own own variety show on an American network television.

In this beautiful one woman show, Nikki Bennett's performance captures the essence of this amazing artist through her life story, with all of its extraordinary highs and lows.

Live and Loopy - Linsey Pollak [LIVE] 10.30am 16 June

Live and Loopy - Linsey Pollak [LIVE]
10.30am Thurs 16th Jun, 2016

Tickets $10 age 3+
ideal for all ages
school groups welcome

Linsey makes music by live looping instruments of his own making such as the saxillo, Mr Curly, Rubber Glove bagpipes and the carrot clarinet. Using these instruments as well as voice, a bubble wrap drum, jawharps and a balloon, he cunningly creates layers of music so you can enjoy the process of composition as well as the product of performance.

Watch and listen as he uses electronic wizardry neatly combined with "do it yourself" ingenuity to create the rich mellow sound of a watering can clarinet quartet, or voice-generated rhythm tracks together with a dose of seventies style funk with "Mr Curly" (a contra-bass clarinet made from plastic garden hose). He even turns a carrot into a beautiful sounding clarinet as you watch.
